McCormick, Freda – Adult Learner: The Irish Journal of Adult and Community Education, 2017
Despite an emphasis in government strategy on the provision of later life learning, little is known about the experiences of older people in their pursuit of such opportunities. This paper explores the extent to which middle-class retirees' learning needs are catered for in Northern Ireland. Data from semi-structured interviews suggest that the…

Goudy, Willis J.; And Others – Journal of Gerontology, 1975
Studies report contradictory finding on the hypothesis of an inverse relationship between work satisfaction and retirement attitude. Some suggest this inverse relationship occurs only where work acts as a key organizing factor for the workers. Data testing these hypotheses were analyzed from a study of employed males age 50 and older (N=1,922).…

Wexley, Kenneth N.; And Others – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 1975
This study examines the perceived need satisfaction, need importance, and overall life satisfaction of managerial and nonmanagerial individuals as a function of four periods of proximity to retirement. Results suggest that the period of four to seven years before retirement may be a critical time to institute retirement planning programs. (Author)

Marshall, Doris – Convergence, 1974
In China, older people are very much a part of society, playing a responsible role in planning and fulfilling the aims of the school, factory, commune, or street committee. Retired Workers' Centers and rural communes provide for the social, physical, and educational needs of the elderly. (MW)

Robb, Thomas Bradley – 1968
This book studies characteristics and needs of the aging in an attempt to relate the resources of the local church to the needs of older persons. It assumes that older persons have many individual needs which are not subject to large scale solutions and must therefore be approached locally. The purpose of this book is to deal with these more…

Lally, J. Ronald; Grossman, Christopher H. – 1981
Elderly and working families with young children have been strongly affected by social changes, particularly in the areas of low-cost quality child care and meaningful opportunities for the elderly. The feasibility of an intergenerational program in which non-center-based, low-cost child care could be provided while expanding employment and…

Barberis, Mary – Population Bulletin, 1981
The elderly make up 11% of the total population of the United States, and senior citizens, particularly those aged 75 and over, are the fastest growing group in the country. Although one-fourth of the federal budget is allotted to their support, many older persons have difficulty in gaining access to the programs designed for their benefit. The…
