Reports on the reaction of long-term subscribers to two newspapers when those papers merged into one paper that adopted a format and content that were designed to attract new readers. Concludes that by reaching out for a younger audience, the new newspaper put less emphasis on local news, which alienated some long-term subscribers. (FL)

The Flesch readability scores for six kinds of newspaper content in 21 daily newspapers showed that newspaper content was generally difficult to read, that international news stories were most difficult to read, and that sports/women's news stories were least difficult to read. (RL)

An analysis of three newspapers' coverage during the last four weeks of the 1968 and 1976 presidential campaigns indicates that in 1976 there was a higher proportion of attention given to issues and to candidates' personal qualities than to the campaign as a dramatic contest, and a decrease in total campaign coverage.
