The Use of Digital Technologies in Teaching the Saxophone in a Chinese Conservatory: Learning Based on the Experience of Saxophonists Du Yinjiao and Liu Yuan
Wei Han
Interactive Learning Environments, v32 n9 p4997-5008 2024
The contemporary system of musical education is being transformed and adapted to technical capabilities. This research aimed to study the features of using digital technologies in teaching the saxophone in a Chinese conservatory based on the experience of saxophonists Du Yinjiao and Liu Yuan. To implement the educational process, the authors developed teaching approaches that included existing methods but were based on new digital technologies that were not previously used within the same educational process. The learning was based on setting up a saxophonist's performing apparatus using Bluestacks, developing technical playing skills using Muzquturie, working on an artistic repertoire based on Avid Cloud Collaboration, and developing improvisational skills based on Pibox Music. The findings showed a higher score for the technical skills (2.1); however, 28% of students believed that the artistic repertoire was of higher quality. The performance of Liu Yuan's composition "Shots in the Night" on the saxophone showed that the performance quality and accuracy (0.23) were higher than the improvisational melody transformation (0.11). The practical significance of this paper is based on the possibility of improving the traditional educational process while learning the saxophone. The research prospects are based on the improvement of the educational process due to a new program for playing the saxophone based on the applications presented in the study.
