Intersection of Culture and Leadership: A Female Hmong Principal Perspective

This qualitative research study informed by constructivist grounded theory will analyze and construct meaning as to how female Hmong Principals develop their leadership style through cultural, personal, and professional influences. I aim to gain a deeper understanding by exploring the salient factors that carefully influence their leadership identities by examining the historical perspective of the Hmong people and its history while infusing the professional context and difficulties in the journey of school leadership. The experience of being a minority within a minority group and navigating the complex course of leading the next generation of learners through a unique though silenced voice will add a depth of perspectives and voices to create what is necessary to the overall shift in educational leadership. In-depth interviews and focus group discussions will reflect on how much cultural, personal, and professional influences have impacted specific choices about leadership and leadership identities.
