A Correlation of the "i"-Ready Assessment Program for Mathematics and Mississippi Academic Assessment Program for Mathematics Scores for Grades 6-8 in One Central Mississippi School
Angela G. Cooley
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Delta State University
Educators rely on a conglomeration of assessment instruments to appraise, measure, monitor, and document evidence of students' academic readiness, learning progressions, acquisition of interdisciplinary knowledge, and extensive educational needs. The Mississippi Academic Assessment Program for Mathematics (MAAP-M) and the i-Ready Assessment Program for Mathematics (i-Ready-M) are two such instruments. The researcher analyzed archived data from the 2018-2019 end-of-year MAAP-M and the i-Ready-M assessments retrieved from the district's central office. The research methodology used in this study determined whether there was a correlation between both measures and the degree to which they were statistically significant. The quantitative research study was conducted in one rural middle school in Central MS. The research design included convenience sampling to ensure a comprehensive representation and inclusivity of all sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade students enrolled in the participating school. Archived data from the 2018-2019 end-of-year MAAP-M and i-Ready-M were retrieved from the district's central office and were analyzed using a Pearson bivariate correlation coefficient. The researcher's analyses of findings denoted the participants' scaled scores on MAAP-M across four categories, revealing moderate correlations in Grade 6 that ranged between 0.745 to 0.818, highly significant correlations in Grade 7 that ranged between 0.747 to 0.835, as well as highly significant correlations in Grade 8 that ranged between 0.773 to 0.834. An extensive analysis of the cumulative findings revealed that i-Ready-M could be utilized to predict the trajectory of students' scaled scores on the statewide mathematics assessment.
