ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, New England College
This doctoral dissertation delves into the intricate and transformative journey that aspiring educators undertake as they ascend to the pivotal role of a school principal. Grounded in qualitative research methods, the study employs in-depth interviews, reflective narratives, and document analysis to illuminate the multifaceted dimensions of the leadership odyssey. Drawing upon the lived experiences of a diverse cohort of school principals, this dissertation uncovers the nuanced interplay of personal, professional, and contextual factors that shape the trajectory of leadership development. Themes such as mentorship, professional learning communities, and adaptive leadership strategies emerge as crucial components of this developmental journey. Findings from this dissertation have implications for educational leadership preparation programs, policy development, and ongoing professional development initiatives. By gaining insights into the lived experiences of those who have successfully navigated the path to school principalship, this research aims to inform educational stakeholders about effective strategies for preparing and supporting the next generation of school leaders, ultimately enhancing the quality of educational leadership in our schools.
