Athletic Training Services and Student Health Services on Campus: Working Together
Turner, H. Spencer
Journal of American College Health, v51 n5 p217-220 Mar 2003
The interests of the student athlete are best served when their medical care is managed by professionals who understand their unique needs. Most often, that is under the umbrella of the student health service, regardless of who performs direct clinical care. Unfortunately, in practice, this is too often the exception rather than the rule. A close relationship between the athletic training staff and the health service allows much stronger maintenance of control of what is (or is not) done medically for a student athlete so that compliance rules are not broken. In this article, the author discusses the issues in developing a sound working relationship between university health service clinicians and athletic trainers employed in a division of intercollegiate athletics.
