Alumni Giving at a Christian Liberal Arts College That Originated as a Bible College
Joel K. Johnson
ProQuest LLC, Ph.D. Dissertation, Southeastern University
Alumni giving is a critical revenue stream for Christian liberal arts colleges that originated as Bible institutions. This dissertation presents an in-depth case study of alumni donation patterns, focusing on how the transition from Bible colleges to liberal arts institutions has influenced giving behaviors. The study examines demographic factors such as age, marital status, and institutional era using quantitative data from a member institution of the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU). Key questions address trends in giving over time, comparisons to national averages, and demographic impacts on donation levels. Findings reveal significant differences in giving patterns among age groups and marital status, emphasizing the importance of targeted alumni engagement strategies. This research offers insights into unique alumni philanthropy characteristics within Christian higher education by comparing institutional data with national norms. Practical implications for developing personalized outreach initiatives are explored, supporting financial sustainability and academic mission alignment for faith-based institutions. This study contributes to understanding philanthropy in higher education and provides a foundation for future research on effective fundraising strategies in similar contexts.
