This study of 23 boys (ages 6 to 14) in a residential psychiatric treatment program found nine of the boys were encopretic (27 times the incidence of encopresis in the general population of boys 10-12). This study examined masculinity and femininity in adult male (n=75) and female (n=38) perpetrators of child sexual abuse. Results did not support the hypothesis that perpetrators of either sex would be more masculine and less feminine than nonclinical adult groups. The characteristics of 34 females and 237 males who exhibited sexual behavior problems were compared. Females were usually younger, and there were more female children of color. Girls also had experienced a higher percentage of multiple abuse victimizations. There were also gender differences in the patterns of abuse perpetrated. (SLD)
