On Phonological Representations, Rules, and Opacity
Barkai, Malachi
Lingua, 37, 4, 363-376, Dec 75
A fundamental concept of generative phonology stating that related morphemes have unique phonological representations is criticized. It is argued that more morphologization of phonological rules is needed to explain morphophonemic changes. (Available from North-Holland Publishing Co., P. O. Box 211, Amsterdam, The Netherlands.)
