21st-Century Learning Blocked: What Is a School Librarian to Do?
Underwood, Linda
School Library Monthly, v26 n1 p14-16 Sep 2009
It seems that fear of Web 2.0 is in full force. There are two concerns that resulted in a national panic concerning Internet Web 2.0 tools: pedophiles luring children via the Internet and corruption of youths through exposure to hard-core pornography or other vile material. Administrators, no doubt, are thinking in terms of saving themselves from a major lawsuit. The concept of freedom of speech means little to an administrator faced with the possibility of bad press or a lawsuit. This article offers several insights on what librarians can do if Web 2.0 tools are blocked in their libraries.
