Ramona Hagenkötter; Valentina Nachtigall; Katrin Rolka; Nikol Rummel – European Journal of Psychology of Education, 2024
The implementation of video modeling examples of mathematical hands-on experimentation may provide students with authentic and, at the same time, not too cognitively overwhelming experiences. However, the effectiveness of video modeling examples can be influenced by different characteristics of the observed models. On the one hand, based on the…

Tasya Umi Pertiwi; Dwi Oetomo; Bowo Sugiharto – Journal of Biological Education Indonesia (Jurnal Pendidikan Biologi Indonesia), 2024
This study aimed to determine the difference in environmental literacy skills between the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) learning model and STEM-based PjBL. This research is quantitative research with a quasi-experimental method. The research design used is a non-equivalent pretest-posttest control group design. The dependent variable in this study…

Adi Rahmat; Muhamad Wafda Jamil – Malaysian Journal of Learning and Instruction, 2024
Purpose: Many students perceive plant anatomy as difficult due to the complexity of the material. Additionally, conventional teaching techniques often neglect the importance of information retention in the learning process. Therefore, this study examines the effects of Retention-Based Learning on students' learning outcomes compared to…

Anahid S. Modrek; Tania Lombrozo – Cognitive Science, 2024
How does the act of explaining influence learning? Prior work has studied effects of explaining through a predominantly proximal lens, measuring short-term outcomes or manipulations within lab settings. Here, we ask whether the benefits of explaining extend to academic performance over time. Specifically, does the quality and frequency of student…

Lee, Seong-Soo – Contemporary Educational Psychology, 1982
Tenth-grade students (n=144) received training on one of three processing methods: coding-mapping (simultaneous), coding only, or decision tree (sequential). The induced simultaneous processing strategy worked optimally under rule learning, while the sequential strategy was difficult to induce and/or not optimal for rule-learning operations.…

Lee, Seong-Soo – Instructional Science, 1981
The study reported investigated the role of memory aids in conjunctive and biconditional inductive processes of attribute-identification and rule-learning tasks, using 132 tenth grade students as subjects. Fifteen references are listed. (CHC)

Paatz, Roland; Ryder, James; Schwedes, Hannelore; Scott, Philip – International Journal of Science Education, 2004
The purpose of this case study is to analyse the learning processes of a 16-year-old student as she learns about simple electric circuits in response to an analogy-based teaching sequence. Analogical thinking processes are modelled by a sequence of four steps according to Gentner's structure mapping theory (activate base domain, postulate local…

Alvermann, Donna E. – 1981
A study was conducted to investigate the compensatory effects of graphic organizers on text organization. Subjects were 114 tenth grade students who read two versions of an expository passage containing identical information but differing in top level structure. The version organized to show opposing views (comparison/contrast) was considered…

Lee, Seong-Soo – Contemporary Educational Psychology, 1979
A set of immediate memory-span tests, concept- and rule-learning tasks, and an IQ test were administered to adolescents. A color-form memory factor and IQ substantially predicted rule-learning proficiency. Effects of memory aids appeared to induce conceptual rules and serve as a base for rehearsing information.
