Fashion Merchandising.
New York City Board of Education, Brooklyn, NY. Div. of Curriculum and Instruction.
This curriculum bulletin provides a curriculum for a one-year course in fashion merchandising, offered in the third year of the marketing education sequence. It is designed to give students majoring in marketing a survey of basic information about the field of fashion merchandising. Students are offered the opportunity to become familiar with a variety of careers throughout the fashion industry from raw material production to department store advertising. The curriculum bulletin suggests a variety of hands-on activities in 10 units: introduction to fashion merchandising, materials of fashion, manufacture and production of fashion apparel, haute couture and ready-to-wear, accessories, retailing, budgeting, planning and controlling stock, fashion promotion, and coordinating the fashion image. The activities, which reinforce the theories and techniques offered in the classroom, culminate in the production of a complete fashion show (unit XI). Each unit contains these sections: performance objectives, related vocabulary, development, and activities. Appendixes include a sample report outline and sources of information. (YLB)
