Ambitious Leadership: How Principals Lead Schools to College and Career Readiness. Policy Brief
New Leaders
This policy brief details three recommendations for how principals can lead schools to college and career readiness. They include: (1) Revising school leadership standards to focus on those most critical for ambitious instructional leadership and providing technical assistance and resources; (2) Strengthening and investing in high-quality principal preparation and support by raising the bar for principal preparation and licensure; providing technical assistance to school districts on high-quality, evidence-based principal support; and investing in evidence-based principal preparation and support; and (3) Providing principals with balanced autonomy by removing barriers to balanced autonomy, investing in programs that provide principals with balanced autonomy, and directing federal funds toward projects that provide principals with balanced autonomy.
