Donald, David E. – Physiologist, 1979
Presents data on release of renin during direct and indirect stimulation of renal nerves. Conclusions show that renin release is influenced by change in activity of carotid and cardiopulmonary baroreceptor systems, and excitation of discrete areas of brain and hypothalamus by changes in renal sympathetic nerve. (Author/SA)

Michael, Joel A. – Physiologist, 1984
Argues that computer-simulated experiments offer educational tools to foster student development of problem-solving skills without traditional laboratory time and expense. The evolution of the medical physiology course at Rush Medical College is used to illustrate trends in this area. They include experiments on PLATO, and on personal computers.…

Olson, L. E. – Physiologist, 1985
Describes two quantitatively-oriented physiology laboratories for veterinary students. The laboratory exercises incorporate the procedures of radiology and physical examination with measurement of pulmonary function. Specific laboratory objectives, procedures and equipment needed for diagnoses of the pathologies are listed. (ML)

Forrester, Tom – Physiologist, 1979
A review of experiments which demonstrate the release of ATP from skeletal muscle, cardiac muscle, and active brain tissue. Effects of exogenously applied ATP to brain tissue are discussed in relation to whole body exercise. (Author/SA)

Hamilton, Lyle H. – Physiologist, 1979
Reviews studies of regulation of nasal airway resistance (Rn). Describes methods of calculating Rn by measuring pressure-flow relationship. Data are presented on improved methods for measuring Rn and effects for expiratory and inspiratory Rn after topical application of phenylephrine nasal decongestant spray. (Author/SA)

Kammer, Ann E. – Physiologist, 1978
Describes a laboratory experiment designed to give beginning physiology students a successful experience with neurophysiological Techniques and to demonstrate some properties of sensory neurons. Pin electrodes are used to record extracellularly from mechanoreceptors in a cockroach leg. (Author/MA)

Katz, S.; And Others – Physiologist, 1978
Describes a computer-based instructional model for the physiology laboratory. Attempts to develop an efficient and low-cost system designed to provide dynamic student/machine interaction are discussed. (MA)

Greenwald, Gilbert S. – Physiologist, 1985
Association of Chairmen of Departments of Physiology (ACDP) members were surveyed to provide data on use of animals in physiology teaching. Information derived from the 88 surveys completed and returned (135 were mailed) are presented in a copy of the instrument. One question lists alternatives to using live animals. (JN)

Klabunde, Richard E.; McDowell, Donald E. – Physiologist, 1984
Describes the construction and use of a life-size model which shows blood flow under normal and pathological conditions. Four experimental procedures (single vessel occlusion, dilation of distal vascular bed, single artery stenosis, and multiple artery stenoses) typical of those demonstrated by the model are discussed and diagrammed. (DH)
