Implementation and Assessment of a Cloud Management Graduate Course to Enhance an Information Technology Program
Mike Morris
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Wilmington University (Delaware)
To meet the employment demands in the information technology industry, it is crucial for higher education institutions to design sustainable curricula to prepare students with the knowledge and skills needed to enter and stay competitive in an ever-changing workforce. A review of one Mid-Atlantic University's information technology programs revealed the need to develop a graduate-level course in cloud technology management. The purpose of the study was to implement a newly developed course about cloud technology and measure its effectiveness to accomplish the intended outcomes of the course. I developed the course and taught it in Spring 2024. I invited students enrolled in the course to participate in an online survey and interview at the conclusion of the class. Twelve and a half percent of the students completed the online survey in which they shared valuable feedback about the course. I used a mixed methods approach to analyze data from Likert scale and open-ended responses. The study revealed that the course effectively accomplished its intended outcomes and 100% of the respondents were very satisfied with the knowledge they gained. Recommendations for future research include conducting it at more than just one university, expanding its duration beyond seven weeks, collecting more survey responses, and successfully encouraging students to participate in a brief Zoom interview to obtain additional qualitative data. Given the positive results of the study, I recommend the course should remain as-is and be updated with new content as new cloud technologies and industry practices emerge.
