Development of Standards for Textiles and Clothing Postsecondary Programs. Final Report.
Iowa State Univ. of Science and Technology, Ames. Dept. of Home Economics Education.
A project was conducted to validate program standards and performance standards for four postsecondary occupational areas--fashion merchandising, fashion design, apparel, and window treatment services. Returns from 117 questionnaires from postsecondary institutions in fifty states were used to develop program standards statements and to provide direction in development of competency statements (program standards). Respondents used a 1 to 11 point scale to indicate degree of importance of general program standards. Fifty educators in fashion merchandising and 54 educators in other textiles and clothing areas responded. Competency statements based on tasks performed in four occupational areas were compiled into one instrument for each area. Separate questionnaires were developed for business and educators. Respondents indicated how important competencies were for each of four areas. Fashion merchandising questionnaires were completed by 218 educators and business personnel; fashion design by 64; apparel services by 108; and window treatment services by 79. Scattergrams were prepared for mean responses to competency statements for fashion design, apparel services; fashion design, window treatment; window treatment, apparel services. Sixteen competencies were common to three areas; 43 common to apparel services, fashion design; 20 common to fashion design, window treatment; and 16 common to window treatment, apparel services.
