Finkelstein, Jesse
ProQuest LLC, Psy.D. Dissertation, Rutgers The State University of New Jersey, Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology
This study examined the feasibility, acceptability, and preliminary promise of an online, self-guided DBT skills course for Distress Tolerance, TheraHive. The course included seven weeks of skills lessons, that were delivered entirely online, in a self-guided format. The course material included written content, animated case studies, instructor videos, interactive scenarios, and homework assignments. Ninety-one participants were included, with twenty completing the seven-session program and eighteen providing post-intervention assessments. The results showed that the intervention was acceptable, with high satisfaction ratings among participants. Additionally, preliminary results suggest that the course may reduce depression symptoms, as indicated by a trend towards significance in a pre-post comparison of depression scores and two participants indicating clinically significant decreases. This online intervention has the potential to increase access to mental health treatments for emotional disorders and provides valuable insights for future research on digitizing DBT interventions.
