The Use of Digital Technologies to Create Multimodal Ensembles in Teacher Preparation Programs: A Mixed Methods Research Study
Rust, Jacquelyn Rene
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Sam Houston State University
The purpose of this study was to determine how preservice teachers are being taught to use digital technologies to create multimodal ensembles in teacher preparation programs. A hermeneutic content analysis with a partially mixed sequential equal status designed study was used during this research. The three data sources explored and examined for this study for 10 consecutive years (2010-2020) included scholarly journals, blogs, and websites. The data that emerged from this analysis showed that there is, in fact, little research on this topic. The connection between digital technologies, preservice teachers, and multimodal ensembles is vital in the articles that discussed the topic but were lacking in the research overall. The implications for this research study will lead to further research in teacher preparation programs and the movement to equip preservice teachers with the knowledge and pedagogies to prepare their future students to be a successful and integral part of a digital and multimodal society.
