The lessons in this workbook are intended to supplement existing taped materials in the French Basic Course. Emphasis is placed on creative activities, realistic situations, and authentic speech variations. The materials can be used for self-study purposes as well as in a language laboratory under the guidance of an instructor. The units in this workbook deal with sound discrimination and pronunciation of French vowel sounds. Each unit contains the following sections: (1) learning objectives, (2) exercises in listening to and oral practice of the sounds, and (3) several self-evaluative quizzes. Many of the exercises are accompanied by cartoon-type illustrations. (AMH)
