Kissel, Stanley; Kissel, Pearl – 1978
The major purpose of this work is to provide information for teachers about intelligence testing; more specifically, how the revised Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC-R) can be used practically. The purpose is not to make teachers into testers, but rather to make them more sophisticiated users of the information that they obtain from…
Descriptors: Elementary Secondary Education, Guides, Intelligence, Intelligence Tests
Manosevitz, Martin; Fling, Sheila – 1975
This study attempted to assess directly whether children who had had an imaginary companion were significantly different from those who had not, in intelligence, creativity, and waiting ability, each of which had been identified in previous research as an important correlate of this phenomenon. A total of 84 children participated in this study,…

Doppelt, Jerome E.; Kaufman, Alan S. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1977
The magnitude of differences between the intelligence quotients (IQs) obtained from the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Revised (WISC-R) and those from the original WISC was estimated. Results showed the WISC-R to yield slightly lower estimates. The particular sub-scale used, age, and ability level affected results. (Author/JKS)
Descriptors: Comparative Analysis, Elementary Secondary Education, Intelligence, Intelligence Quotient

Linn, Marcia C. – Psychology in the Schools, 1973
The present study investigated: (a) the relationship between IQ test scores and ability to follow specific instructions for solving matrices; and (b) the relationship between IQ test scores and the ability to follow strategy instructions for solving matrices. Findings from this investigation may clarify the relationship between intelligence and…

Webb, Allen P. – Psychology in the Schools, 1973
Comments on an article in a previous issue of this journal (v9 n3 1972). (CJ)

Ruschival, M. Lena; Way, John Gilbert – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1971
The purpose of the study was to determine whether WPPSI is a valid and reliable instrument for the measurement of the intelligence of children whose scores fall within the upper range as measured by the Stanford-Binet. The results of this study indicated that there was only a moderate relationship between the two. (Author)

Pasewark, Richard A.; And Others – Journal of School Psychology, 1971
Using 72 lower class children, concurrent validity of the WPPSI was studied using the Stanford-Binet as the criterion. Correlations between SB and WPPSI were moderately high. Among the WPPSI subtests, Vocabulary was significantly lower than all other subtests. The only significant sexual difference favored females on Similarities. (Author)

Pool, Donald A.; Brown, Robert – J Consult Clin Psychol, 1970
Evaluates Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test (PPVT) as a rapidly administrable test of intelligence. The PPVT and Doppelt Short Form of the WAIS were given to 150 outpatients. Results suggest clinicians should be cautious in making decisions about patients on the basis of PPVT scores. (Author)

Olneck, Michael R.; Wolfe, Barbara L. – Review of Economics and Statistics, 1980
The principal finding of an analysis of two sets of data obtained from a sample of approximately 6,200 men is the absence of a negative relationship between parental intelligence test scores and number of offspring. Available from North-Holland Publishing Company, P.O. Box 211, Amsterdam, The Netherlands. (Author/MLF)

Nordberg, Robert B. – Journal of Thought, 1976
Author concludes that "...intelligence is a power rather than an activity or a thing,...accident rather than substance, potency rather than act, and...many confusions relating to (its) character, measurement, development and function stem chiefly from the difficulties of putting it in the category of a power." (Auth.)

Hundal, P. S.; Horn, John L. – Applied Psychological Measurement, 1977
Results indicated two broad factors of intelligence, interpreted as fluid intelligence and crystallized intelligence, coordinated with two broad factors of short-term learning, interpreted as indicating primary memory and secondary acquisition. (Author/RC)
Descriptors: High School Students, Intelligence, Intelligence Tests, Learning

Raykov, Tenko – Structural Equation Modeling, 1997
Growth curve analysis is applied to modeling test performance changes demonstrated by older adults following cognitive training or based on repeatedly presented fluid intelligence measures. Findings using data from a study by P. Bates and others (1986) provide evidence of plasticity in the fluid intelligence of older adults. (SLD)
Descriptors: Ability, Achievement Gains, Cognitive Measurement, Intelligence

Miller, Linda T.; Vernon, Philip A. – Intelligence, 1996
Whether results previously found in adults, demonstrating a relationship between intellectual ability, speed of information processing, and memory capacity could be found in young children was studied with 109 children. Findings suggest that children's intelligence cannot be explained using a model of adult intelligence. (SLD)
Descriptors: Adults, Child Development, Intelligence, Intelligence Tests

Skuder, Patricia; And Others – Intelligence, 1995
Of 100 DNA markers examined in an allelic association study, only 1 showed a replicated association with IQ in samples totaling 107 children. How the gene marked by the particular restriction fragment length polymorphism was tracked and its mitochondrial origin identified is described. (SLD)
Descriptors: Children, DNA, Genetics, Heredity

Plomin, Robert; And Others – Intelligence, 1995
For DNA markers in or near genes of neurological relevance, allelic frequencies were compared for groups of high- and low-IQ children (total sample of 86). This study adds 40 markers to the 60 already studied. Only one showed a significant association with IQ in original and replication samples. (SLD)
