Heins, Conrad F.; And Others – Environmental Science and Technology, 1975
New ways of obtaining environmental data are being developed to meet the demand for comprehensive, accurate, and timely information on the environment. This article examines four developments that are transforming the entire field of environmental measurement: spectroscopy; satellite transmission of environmental data; remote sensing; and…

Clarke, Wayne M. – Journal of Phonetics, 1975
A nasal separator was used to measure the oral and nasal components in the speech of a normal adult Australian population. Results indicated no difference in oral and nasal sound pressure levels for read versus spontaneous speech samples; however, females tended to have a higher nasal component than did males. (Author/TL)

Irving, Michael – Elements of Technology, 1975
The conclusion of the two-part feature on the S1 metric (International System of Units) reviews the basics and some of the rules technical teachers need to know in order to prepare their students for the changing world. (Author)

Ricci, Robert W. – Journal of Chemical Education, 1974
Descriptors: Chemistry, College Science, Computer Programs, Instructional Materials

West, Leonard J. – Business Education Forum, 1975
The article considers: (1) three fundamental principles for measurement, (2) facts about typewriting and stenographic skills that bear on their measurement, (3) recommendations for testing in accord with those facts and with basic measurement principles, and (4) the establishment of standards and modes of scoring and grading. (Author)

Canizaro, Beth C. – 1985
The skills, understandings, and attitudes necessary for an effective instructional supervisor were identified in the literature (using, for the most part, those materials written since 1975). Twenty-six elements were identified and clustered into six areas for a self-evaluation instrument that can give supervisors a means to describe and analyze…

American Chemical Society, Washington, DC. – 1984
A questionnaire was mailed to 50 major chemistry departments, 112 smaller chemistry departments, and 25 chemical engineering (CE) departments. The survey (included in an appendix) consists of a series of questions on two broad subjects--the current inventory at the surveyed institutions and the needs for instrumentation. Responses were received…

Stedman, Donald H.; Meyers, Philip A. – BioScience, 1974
Discusses advances made in chemical analysis instrumentation used in environmental monitoring. This first of two articles is concerned with analytical instrumentation in which detection and dispersion depend ultimately on the properties of gaseous molecules. (JR)
Descriptors: Air Pollution, Chemical Analysis, Chemistry, Chromatography

Descriptors: Chemistry, College School Cooperation, Educational Programs, Instruction
Blanchard, B. Everard – 1967
The Illinois Ratings of Teacher Effectiveness (IRTE) is an instrument for recording senior high school student perceptions of teacher performance in ten trait areas: teacher appearance, ability to explain, friendliness, grading fairness, discipline, outside classroom assignments, enjoyment of teaching, voice, mannerisms, and command of subject…

Griffith, O. Frank; Branley, Edward A. – American Journal of Physics, 1975
Includes a syllabus for lecture and laboratory in a course emphasizing principles of operation rather than trouble shooting. (GH)
Descriptors: College Science, Higher Education, Instruction, Instrumentation
Van Harlingen, David L. – 1978
This researcher investigated two problems: (1) the accuracy and validity of instruments which measure Piagetian levels of thought; and (2) the need for more detailed models of concrete and formal operational structures, both as they develop and consolidate, and in their most highly developed state. Several tasks such as the Piagetian correlations…

O'CONNOR, LLOYD R. – 1967
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TEACHERS' RESPONSES TO THE EMOTIONAL AND DEVELOPMENTAL CHARACTERISTICS OF CHILDREN WERE USED TO DEVELOP A TEST INSTRUMENT WHICH WOULD BE OF VALUE TO TEACHERS, TEACHER-TRAINING PERSONNEL, AND SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS FOR THE PLACEMENT OF TEACHERS AT THE MOST APPROPRIATE GRADE LEVEL. ELEMENTARY TEACHERS WERE DIVIDED INTO PRIMARY…

Mangum, Billy W., Ed.; Hill, James E., Ed. – 1977
Included in these proceedings are 11 formal papers presented by leading researchers in the field of thermal comfort and heat stress at a symposium held for the purpose of exploring new aspects of indoor thermal environments, caused primarily by the impact of energy conservation in new and existing buildings. The contributed papers were from…
