Hardcastle, W. J. – Journal of Phonetics, 1975
Reports on the effects of oral anaesthesia and auditory masking on various aspects of speech articulation as objectively quantified by electropalatography and sound spectrography. The results show changes in speech production caused by altered tactile and auditory feedback. (Author/TL)
Descriptors: Acoustic Phonetics, Applied Linguistics, Articulation (Speech), Auditory Stimuli

Stevens, Kenneth N.; Blumstein, Sheila E. – Journal of Phonetics, 1975
Acoustic properties of retroflex consonants were determined and interpreted in terms of acoustic theory. The results are considered in relation to a quantal theory, auditory property detectors, and theoretical notions of markedness. (Author/TL)
Descriptors: Acoustic Phonetics, Articulation (Speech), Auditory Perception, Consonants

Long, Robert, II – American Journal of Physics, 1975
Describes modules designed to enable a student to learn a measurement technique and familiarize himself with measurement instrumentation independently of a laboratory course. Presents an example of a module involving the measurement of electrical resistance and lists other modules that have been developed. (GS)

Fahy, F. W. – Engineering Education, 1975
Describes a combined demonstration and student experiment course to illustrate fundamental techniques, instrumentation, and concise report writing. Describes experiments including tensile tests, heat treatment, equilibrium diagram, microexamination, strain measurement, and recrystallization. (GH)

Descriptors: Cross Cultural Training, Instrumentation, Music, Music Education
Wark, David M. – 1968
An examination of typical situations concerning the status of a variable is followed by a discussion of the measurement and empirical problems involved in measuring current status. Arguments for more consideration of variability, particularly individual variation, are presented. Among the problems discussed are (1) describing large samples through…

Chase, D. L.; And Others – 1972
Total mercury in ambient air can be collected in iodine monochloride, but the subsequent analysis is relatively complex and tedious, and contamination from reagents and containers is a problem. A sliver wool collector, preceded by a catalytic pyrolysis furnace, gives good recovery of mercury and simplifies the analytical step. An instrumental…

Champlin, Robert L.; And Others – 1975
This text on monitoring and surveillance is intended for the undergraduate college student and the professional technician. The materials contained within the book are presented from both a practical and philosophical standpoint. The "reason for" and the "how to" are examined within each section, including problems at the end of each chapter which…
