Landgraf, Alan L.; And Others – Journal of Library Automation, 1973
An experiment was conducted to design a corporate author index to a large bibliographic file. The nature of corporate entries necessitates a different search key construction from that of personal names or titles. Derivation of a search key to select distinct corporate entry records is discussed. (7 references) (Author)

Swanson, Rowena W. – Journal of the American Society for Information Science, 1973
An important factor to be considered in applying clustering techniques to information storage and retrieval problems is the use to be made of the resultant groupings. An examination of cluster criteria differentiation as a function of purpose may be fruitful in the exploitation of clustering techniques. (12 references) (Author/KE)

Shaw, Renata V. – Special Libraries, 1972
Three methods of picture storage and retrieval used in collections without automatic data processing facilities are discussed in two parts. Part I covers self-indexing files which can be used for portraits, geographical pictures, things, plants, animals, and events. Part 2, will discuss individual cataloging and group cataloging. Hoffman, Warren S. – Journal of Chemical Documentation, 1972
The Information Flow System is a large-scale information retrieval system developed for processing of Du Pont information files. As currently implemented, the system stores and retrieves information on company technical reports. Extensions of the system for handling chemical structure information and on-line processing are also discussed. (3…

Thiel, L. H.; Heaps, H. S. – Information Storage and Retrieval, 1972
Retrospective search of large data bases requires development of special techniques for automatic compression of data and minimization of the number of input-output operations to the computer files. The computer program should require a relatively small amount of internal memory. This paper describes the structure of such a program. (9 references)…

Herr, J. Joanne; Smith, Gloria L. – Journal of Chemical Documentation, 1972
Advantages of the Berkeley Mass Storage System (MSS) for information retrieval other than its size are: high serial-read rate, archival data storage; and random-access capability. By use of this device, the search cost in an SDI system based on the Nuclear Science Abstracts" data base was reduced by 20 percent. (6 references) (Author/NH)

Freides, Thelma – RQ, 1971
Delineated in this bibliography are the characteristics of a number of retrospective bibliographies in one major division of scholarship--the social sciences--in an attempt to identify and sort out the various purposes toward which works in this format appear to be directed. Merrill, M. David; And Others. – Instructional Science, 1981
Describes the Elaboration Theory of Instruction (ETI) and charts its correspondence with several major principles drawn from contemporary cognitive psychology. Components of the ETI are related to current models of knowledge representation, schema theory, memory processes, and earlier cognitive based instructional frameworks. Fifty-three…

Holmes, Thomas F.; Gentry, Castelle G. – Audiovisual Instruction, 1979
Describes the personal inverted filing system (PIFS) which features (1) storage accession numbers, (2) main entry bibliography cards, (3) retrieval by matrix or bibliography cards, and (4) classification by descriptors from existing thesauri. (CMV)

Sanchez, D.; Chamorro-Martinez, J.; Vila, M. A. – Information Processing & Management, 2003
Discussion of multimedia libraries and the need for storage, indexing, and retrieval techniques focuses on the combination of computer vision and data mining techniques to model high-level concepts for image retrieval based on perceptual features of the human visual system. Uses fuzzy set theory to measure users' assessments and to capture users'…
