Fenster, Mark J. – Journal of Studies in Technical Careers, 1992
Before a statistics course, 49 adults completed the Wide Range Achievement Test-Revised (WRAT-R). Test performance (aptitude) and course performance correlated, but the WRAT-R made prediction errors 35% of the time. Students with negative attitudes about statistics performed more poorly in the course. (SK)

Dudczak, Craig A.; And Others – 1992
A study assessed the predictive validity of two substantially different instruments (a questionnaire or a philosophy statement) which may be used to predict critics' ballot behavior in Cross Examination Debate Association (CEDA) debate. Questionnaires were distributed to 29 debate tournaments across the United States for completion by critics…

Manning, Wayne – 1992
A study was done at Panhandle State University (Oklahoma) examining whether high school grade point averages or ACT (American College Testing) scores provided a better predictor of freshman academic success. Study procedures included a review of the literature, meetings with the academic vice president and five deans, as well as examination of…

Gross, Alan L.; And Others – 1993
A statistical model for investigating predictive validity at highly selective institutions is described. When the selection ratio is small, one must typically deal with a data set containing relatively large amounts of missing data on both criterion and predictor variables. Standard statistical approaches are based on the strong assumption that…

House, William J.; Davis, Cheryl – 1986
The behavior of two real-time computer simulation models of melody recognition was compared with the performance of human subjects in this study. One of the models, INT1, recognized melodies by comparing specific intervals with stored intervals. The other model, CONT1, performed by comparing the contour of the stimulus melody with an array of…

Hughey, Jim D. – 1984
Four studies were conducted to investigate the relationship between communication and predictive accuracy. Subjects, students enrolled in various college speech and communication classes, completed the Allport-Vernon-Lindzey Study of Values, first in terms of their own values and then in terms of how they believed a specified target would respond.…

Beaton, Albert E.; Barone, John L. – 1981
The purpose of this paper is to show the effect of using a selection test on the average criterion score of the entering class. The correlation coefficient (times 100) is shown to be the percentage of improvement of using the selection test over what would happen on the average if the test were not used. A simple formula is developed for…

Nagi, John L. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1975
Intended to determine the validity of the total score on the Graduate Record Examinations Aptitude Test (GRE) and of the score on the Miller Analogies Test (MAT) as predictors of a criterion of completion or noncompletion of the Doctoral Program in Educational Administration at State University of New York at Albany. (Author)

Haase, Richard F.; And Others – 1979
Discriminant analysis of Holland's Self Directed Search and Vocational Preference Inventory significantly improved the predictive validity of his classification scheme, over the traditional method of assigning high point codes. These results were obtained with both an initial and a replication sample of undergraduates pursuing various degrees. The…

LUTZ, SANDRA W.; RICHARDS, JAMES M., JR. – 1967
TO EVALUATE THE PREDICTIVE VALIDITY OF THE ACT TESTS AND THE NON-ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT SCALES OF THE STUDENT PROFILE SECTION, AT 14 2-YEAR AND 21 4-YEAR COLLEGES STUDENTS WHO HAD COMPLETED THE ACT BATTERY PRIOR TO ADMISSION WERE SURVEYED FOR THEIR ACADEMIC AND NON-ACADEMIC ACCOMPLISHMENTS DURING THEIR FRESHMAN YEAR. CRITERIA INCLUDED COLLEGE…

Doebler, Charles H. – 1970
This report is an abridgement of HE 001 613 which described an extensive research project at Brown University on the determination and usefulness of nonacademic admission criteria in the selection of college students. This report puts the problem of admission at selective colleges in historical perspective and discusses the results of the study in…

Swanson, Robert S.; And Others – 1969
The Graduate College at Stout State University commonly employs two criteria in deciding which applicants should be permitted to enroll for graduate degree programs: cumulative undergraduate grade-point average and experience. It was the purpose of this study to determine the effectiveness of these two criteria in predicting the likelihood of…

Melanson, Philip H.; Tenzer, Morton J. – 1970
This report of the findings of 14 years of research in fellowship selection techniques under the National Science Foundation Graduate Fellowship Program is organized primarily under research topics, though changes in panel procedures and data processing introduced either on the basis of the research findings or through less formalized experience…

Stiggins, Richard J.; And Others – Applied Psychological Measurement, 1978
Various American College Test (ACT) score combinations were used to predict students' performance on numerous reading tests at a large number of postsecondary institutions. These studies indicated a high level of predictive accuracy. (Author/CTM)
