The purpose of this study was to survey the drug use patterns for three academic settings. Generally, the survey revealed that the extent of drug use in the three populations surveyed was high and effective preventative programs were lacking or minimal. A survey of several hundred internists, surgeons, and psychiatrists concerning their attitudes toward female and male alcoholics, alcoholism, the adequacy of their education about alcoholism, methods of handling alcoholics, and desire to learn about alcoholism is reported. This study compared how alcohol effect expectancies and reaction expectancies related to one another and to male and female college students' drinking behavior.
