The present study compares marijuana users and nonusers in terms of (a) psychological needs, (b) self-descriptions, (c) self-esteem, (d) academic achievement, (e) ordinal position of birth, and (f) attitudes toward the legalization of various items. Questionnaires were distributed to a random sample of currently enrolled full time students at a small highly selective liberal arts college located in the Pacific Northwest. A casual path model based on Sutherland's theory was developed and applied to student marijuana use as a specific delinquent act. This study examines trends in student attitudes and behavior toward drugs over a twelve-month period, and follows up a previous investigation of University of Maryland students' attitudes and behavior toward drug use. Data indicate fewer than half of the students from both samples ever used any of the illicit drugs mentioned. (Author)

Alcohol consumption was examined among students (N=3,083) at 17 colleges and universities over a five year period. Findings reveal that, while the percentage who drank remained constant, there was a slight decrease in the level of alcohol consumption. (Author)

The Personality Research Form (PRF) was administered to 1,095 college students. Students were divided into groups of nonusers of drugs and alcohol and users of a variety of drug combinations.
