Administrators in higher education disclosed life style patterns for the "retirement period" from ages 65 to 75. Two contrasting patterns are described-Transformers and Maintainers. These groups reported differences in boyhood experiences, attitudes toward retirement, and choices of activity after age 65. (Author)

The active publishers had a less varied career but continued their research beyond retirement. The moderately active and inactive publishers began careers with teaching and administration and reported sharper separation at retirement.…

A partial pension plan to encourage part-time employment of persons aged 60 to 70 could provide a more satisfying transition to full retirement. Age structure and the size of the labor force are discussed, along with conditions facilitating work and employment of older people and the effects of the rising cost of energy. (LBH)
