Communities in Schools in a Title 1 Suburban High School: A Program Evaluation
Wynn, Mirna Berenice
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, University of West Georgia
The purpose of this program evaluation is to examine the effectiveness of one Communities in Schools (CIS) program within a Title 1 Suburban High School in the Southeastern United States. The areas of foci include student attendance, grade level promotion, and graduation rate during the 2016-2017 school year. The program evaluation was designed to answer the following evaluation questions identified by stakeholders based on the current academic and graduation goals of the Southeastern Title 1 Suburban High School: (1) To what extent does participation in the CIS program impact at-risk students' attendance? (2) To what extent does participation in the CIS program impact at-risk students' grade-level promotion? (3) To what extent does participation in the CIS program impact at-risk students' graduation rate? This program evaluation utilized an objectives-oriented evaluation approach. The findings indicated that the CIS program is effective in helping at-risk high school students succeed. However, the CIS program may benefit from additional site coordinators, improvement of data collections, and an additional student recruitment category.
