Transition Strategies and Approaches that Supported High School Graduates' Success in College
Stephen Nash Torode
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Grand Canyon University
Helping students transition from high school to college typically involves creating online transition programs in high school, which could lead to higher retention rates in college. The course developers that create online transition programs for high school-aged students understand that online learning methods are an excellent way to reach more students at lower costs. For this reason, support programs have recently harnessed online technology to prepare high school graduates for the transition to college. The high school online transition program at the center of this current study supported more than 550 motivated, first-generation students from the Western United States. It empowered them to achieve their academic dreams by preparing them to transition from high school to college. This study utilized a qualitative methodology with a descriptive study design. The theoretical foundation that was employed was Schlossberg's transition theory. Schlossberg's theory of transition helped to provide a framework for understanding the current study as it relates to the process and elements of transitions. It helped to describe the various stages of the transitions and help the researcher explain each step related to the data uncovered from interviews and focus groups from the study participants.
