Descriptors: Audiology, Auditory Perception, Disabilities, Hearing Impairments

Erber, Norman P. – Journal of Speech and Hearing Disorders, 1979
Examples of pattern cues that are available to profoundly hearing-impaired children are presented through an optical analog, and the usefulness of these cues is shown with regard to vowel and consonant identification, word stress-pattern perception, and distinction among sentences that differ in number of syllables, pattern, intensity, or rate.…

Cone-Wesson, Barbara – American Journal of Audiology, 1995
This article discusses the accuracy of bone-conduction auditory brainstem response (BC-ABR) tests to determine the presence and severity of conductive hearing impairment. It provides warnings about technical pitfalls and recommends incorporating BC-ABR protocols for routine clinical use. It concludes that the method allows estimating cochlear…

Kopun, Judy G.; And Others – Journal of Speech and Hearing Research, 1992
This study examined the attenuation characteristics of 5 Frequency Modulation system sound delivery options for 25 adults and children (ages 5-13). Degree of ear canal occlusion was a major factor in degree of attenuation. For children with unilateral hearing impairments, the most acoustically appropriate option was the tube-fitting. (Author/JDD)
Descriptors: Adults, Audiology, Children, Delivery Systems

Karzon, Roanne G. – Journal of Speech and Hearing Research, 1991
Sensitivity and specificity of static acoustic admittance (SAA) and tympanometric width (TW) were assessed for 116 pediatric patients. A statistically significant change in SAA was observed in immediate repeat measures. No significant change across the two sequential measures was observed for TW, peak pressure, or the estimate of ear canal volume.…

Mira, Mary P. – 1968
Behavioral studies of listening in children with both normal and exceptional hearing are presented. The conjugate of assessing listening is discussed. This method provides a continuous record of ongoing behavior allowing for observation of moment-to-moment changes in listening. It determines how sustained, how strong, and how continuous a child's…
