Therapists' Perceptions toward Delivering School Telemental Health Services

This qualitative study aimed to understand mental health providers' perceptions and how they feel about implementing telemental health services to the K-12 population. Phenomenology guided the study, and the Technology Acceptance Model was the conceptual framework. To begin the study, it was beneficial to discuss the varying issues and strengths of providing telemental health services based on the research. This study consisted of semi-structured interviews with 10 participants. The results indicated that mental health providers were receptive to telemental health and found it beneficial for clients. Most providers also felt supportive while completing telemental health services. Highlighted concerns were technology issues, safety concerns, and participants' difficulty managing severe diagnosis in telemental health. Information from this study will assist the mental health field manage concerns to minimize issues that providers experience during telemental health sessions. Implementing professional development training and regular pulse checks can help with identifying and planning for safety risk. This can also help with managing severe diagnosis. Lastly, technology issues such as poor Wi-Fi connectivity can be managed through a systematic process to ensure that technology concerns are limited.
