In a longitudinal investigation of 179 seventh graders, the current investigation covers a surviving sample of eleventh graders. Broadus, Robert N.; Elmore, Kenneth E. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1983
The validities of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) and of undergraduate grade point averages (GPAs) in the prediction of graduate GPAs and a comprehensive examination were compared using a sample of 257 master's degree candidates in a school of library science. GRE verbal scores were the most valid predictors of success. (Author/PN)

Weitzman, R. A. – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1982
In a nonadversarial approach the predictive validities of the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) and the high school record, the effects of the selection process on validities, and effects if colleges used a common standard of achievement were examined. Results indicate that the SAT may be a highly valid selection instrument. (Author/CM)

Rownd, Carolyn; And Others – Research in Higher Education, 1981
A study of the persistence behavior of students who drop college courses included predictions concerning which students were most likely to drop courses, which courses were most likely to be dropped, and at what point in the semester students were most likely to drop courses. (Author/MLW)

Mehrens, William A.; Phillips, S. E. – Applied Measurement in Education, 1989
A sequential decision-making approach based on college grade point averages and test scores for teacher licensure decisions within the conjunctive model is contrasted with the compensatory model for decision making. Descriptors: Comparative Analysis, Cutting Scores, Decision Making, Grade Point Average

Young, John W. – Research in Higher Education, 1990
Predictive validity of preadmissions measures may be understated because of correctable defects in freshman year and cumulative high school grade point averages (GPAs). A study used item response theory (IRT) to develop a more reliable measure of performance and test it using Stanford University data. Results showed increased predictability.…

Crouse, James; Trusheim, Dale – Harvard Educational Review, 1991
Demonstrates that selection benefits of the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) are minimal. Demonstrates that the Crosstabulation of Predicted Grades and the College Outcomes Tables would allow colleges to identify the level of redundancy in predicted admissions based on high school grade point average and to estimate the impact of the SAT on…
