Survey of Minority-Owned Business Enterprises: Black, 1982. Minority-Owned Businesses.
Bureau of the Census (DOC), Suitland, MD.
This publication presents 1982 data on business enterprises owned by Black Americans. This population of business owners was identified from tax forms and census data. In 1982 there were 339,239 black-owned firms with $12.4 billion in receipts. These businesses were concentrated in services and the retail trades. Five states--California, Texas, New York, Florida, and Illinois--contained 39 percent of these firms. The sole proprietorship form of organization accounted for 95.2 percent of black-owned businesses. Ten tables include statistics comparing these businesses by state, type of business, type of organization, regional factors, receipts, and employment. (VM)
