Chan, Stephen W. – Journal of Chinese Linguistics, 1974
Examines several subtypes of the verbal sequency NP-VP1-VP2 in Chinese, especially those involving descriptions of human action, directed motion, and instrumental functions, and finds that these could be subsumed under the heading of "purposive clauses." Gandour, Jack – PASAA: Notes and News about Language Teaching and Linguistics in Thailand, 1974
It is asserted that the glottal stop in Thai must be present in underlying forms, even though it could be derived by phonological rule.
