Financial abuse is already one of the most prevalent areas of elder abuse. The effects of financial abuse can be as severe as physical abuse and, in this context, the infrequently used term "economic violence" conveys a more vivid sense of the devastating impact. The elder financial abuse project initiated by the National Institute of Adult Continuing Education (NIACE) is looking to analyze the various facets of the issue in order to develop effective ways to combat it. Learning opportunities in relation to elder financial abuse are manifold. In this article, the author looks at the issues in some of the main areas that the project is aiming to address.
