Perspectives on Elder Abuse in Germany
Konig, Julia; Leembruggen-Kallberg, Elisabeth
Educational Gerontology, v32 n1 p25-35 Jan 2006
This study of 74 German citizens analyzed perspectives on the behaviors of adult children toward their elderly parents, with a focus on the behaviors that were considered to be extremely, moderately, or mildly abusive. Physical and psychological aggression, psychological neglect, and neglect/abandonment were most frequently cited as examples of abuse, followed by economic exploitation and verbal aggression. There were 2 gender differences: women gave more examples of psychological neglect as prototypes of mild abuse than men did, and men gave more examples of physical aggression as prototypes of moderate abuse than women did.
