Using a sample of 686 married Irish women in Cork City the Bott hypothesis was tested, and the results of a multivariate regression analysis revealed that neither network connectedness nor the strength of the respondent's emotional ties to the network had any explanatory power. (Author)

Parallel analyses of effects of wife's social origin and educational attainment on husband's occupational attainment are presented for the two countries. The effects are very limited in the United States, but quite strong in Britain. Findings are discussed in light of expected differences in stratification systems of the two countries. (Author)

Data on marital careers of 176 lower-class individuals from Trinidad are analyzed in terms of the frequency and sequencing of three types of marital unions--friending, living, and marriage. Sequencing of marital unions shows movement toward more stable relationships within partnerships and throughout the individual's marital career. (Author)

This paper summarizes responses to questionnaire on marital attitudes and preferences by 574 boys and 473 girls, aged between 16 and 19, attending grades 10-12 of several secondary schools in Shiraz.
