Considers the characteristics of the father as sexual abuser and discusses appropriate treatment. Concludes treatment of incestuous father involves the establishment of an empathic relationship and admission of responsibility on offender's part is necessary if out-patient treatment is to be feasible. A survey of undergraduates (N=427) in Queensland (Australia) found child sexual abuse prevalence rates of 19% for males and 45% for females, with incestuous abuse reported by 9% of males and 19% of females. Other findings addressed age at onset of abuse, gender, types of unwanted sexual experiences, and media exposure. (DB)

A survey of 7,476 students 15 to 16 years old was conducted in Finland to determine the prevalence of physical and sexual child abuse. The study found that 0.5% of the girls reported father/stepfather-daughter incest. The girls overwhelmingly indicated negative feelings about the experience. (CR)
