Iao, Lai-Sang; Roeser, Jens; Justice, Lucy; Jones, Gary – Developmental Psychology, 2021
Concurrent learning of adjacent and nonadjacent dependencies has been shown in adults only. This study extended this line of research by examining dependency-specific learning for both adjacent and nonadjacent dependencies concurrently in both adults and children. Seventy adults aged 18 to 64 (40 women, 30 men; Experiment 1) and 64 children aged…

Cao, Jianxia; Nishihara, Akinori – Journal of Educational Multimedia and Hypermedia, 2012
More and more videos are now being used in e-learning context. For improving learning effect, to understand how students view the online video is important. Hermes, Dik J. – Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research, 1998
In two experiments, five phoneticians rated the dissimilarity of two pitch contours to investigate whether important audible differences would correspond with visually conspicuous differences between displayed pitch contours. Results indicate that visual feedback may be very effective in intonation training if auditorily relevant features of pitch…

Hermes, Dik J. – Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research, 1998
This study investigated the effectiveness of four different methods for measuring the similarity of pitch contours. The correlation coefficient between two normalized contours was the best method; however, if pitch range is important, the mean distance and the root-mean-square distance should be considered first in automatic training in…

Murray, G. K.; Veijola, J.; Moilanen, K.; Miettunen, J.; Glahn, D. C.; Cannon, T. D.; Jones, P. B.; Isohanni, M. – Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry, 2006
Background: The relationship between the age of reaching infant developmental milestones and later intellectual function within the normal population remains unresolved. We hypothesised that the age of learning to stand in infancy would be associated with adult executive function and that the association would be apparent throughout the range of…

Hunstad, Egil – Scandinavian Journal of Educational Research, 1985
Visualized braille was presented on closed circuit television (CCTV) to six blind tactile braille reading subjects (ages 12-50). Results supported cross-modal transfer of learning from tactile to visual modality. After intensive visual training, these subjects could discriminate visual forms and read ordinary print using the CCTV. (Author/BS)
