Recommendations to Improve Space Projection Models and University Space Usage
Stigall, Sam W.
New Directions for Institutional Research, n135 p29-36 Fall 2007
In today"s economy, public university administrators need to reflect on current practices for reporting and projecting space requirements to government entities as the cost of constructing new facilities or renovating space rises while income from legislative appropriations diminishes. As stewards of public buildings and funds, institutions are responsible to the public to improve space usage and provide the facilities necessary to enhance learning. This includes having cutting-edge research facilities and meeting all building requirements for health, safety, and accessibility. Existing space must be used effectively to justify the need for additional space. This chapter reviews the current space projection model for the State of Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) and compares this methodology to other select states.
