Mullen, John; Abeles, Norman – Journal of Counseling Psychology, 1971
Study results indicated that high liking and high empathy together did not predict successful outcome, though a post hoc analysis showed a positive relationship between high empathy alone and successful outcome. Cicchetti, Domenic V.; And Others – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1976
Cicchetti and Ryan criticize Beutler et al's recent report. They claim that it suggests using the number of patients rather than the number of therapists as the appropriate unit for analyzing the reliability of process psychotherapy variables. In response, Beutler states that the criticism confounds methodological and statistical issues. (NG)

Pennscott, William W.; Brown, Darine F. – Counselor Education and Supervision, 1972
It was found that anxiety decreased significantly during the course of the institute. No significant relationship was found between anxiety and empathy changes. It appears that such changes in trainees may be related to length of training. (Author)
