Better Science: Health and Science Education. Curriculum Guide 9.
Bentley, Di, Comp.
This publication is one in a series of 12 giving the recommendations that were made for a broad and balanced education program in science for young people. This guide covers some basic questions about health education as viewed by science teachers, gives suggestions and recommendations for how science teachers might plan their contribution to health education, provides examples of teaching approaches and materials which science teachers can use to enhance their science teaching in a health context, and uses a number of case studies to demonstrate how science teachers working with the committee have implemented many of the suggestions and recommendations. The contents of this guide include an introduction, a list of readings, references, and nine sections entitled: (1) "What Do We Mean By Health?"; (2) "From Health to Health Education"; (3) "Health and Science Education--What Do We Teach?"; (4) "Where Does Health Education Take Place?"; (5) "Who Teaches Health Education?"; (6) "What Methods Do Teachers Use?"; (7) "Assessment in Health Education"; (8) "School Assessment: What Does the Review Have to Offer?"; and (9) "Aspects of Evaluation of Health Education."
