A five-city survey of 464 fifth- and tenth-grade southwestern Mexican American boys and girls focused on media consumption. Bigler, Rebecca S.; Averhart, Cara J.; Liben, Lynn S. – Developmental Psychology, 2003
Examined whether African American first- through sixth-graders' perceptions of occupational status and their own vocational interests were affected by racial segregation of the workforce. Byrne, Barbara M.; Schneider, Barry H. – Applied Measurement in Education, 1988
For 241 normal and 132 gifted fifth graders and 113 normal and 117 gifted seventh graders in Ottawa (Ontario), exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses investigated the factorial validity of the Perceived Competence Scale for Children (PCSC). Overall, the PCSC demonstrated sound psychometric properties. (SLD)

Wigfield, Allan; Meece, Judith L. – Journal of Educational Psychology, 1988
Confirmatory factor analysis of data from a portion of a long-term study provided evidence for two components of math anxiety for 298 male and 266 female 6th through 12th graders. The components related to negative affective reactions and cognitive aspects. Age and gender differences were significant. (TJH)

Seawel, Lori; And Others – Journal of Computing in Childhood Education, 1994
Compared the effects of computer-based word processing and writing by hand on 14 third and fourth graders' attitudes and performance in the writing process. How 330 young, 481 middle, and 299 late adolescents (535 males and 575 females) perceive the relative importance of relationships with their mother, father, most important sibling, best same-sex friend, and most important teacher was investigated. Bisanz, Gay L.; And Others – Journal of Educational Psychology, 1992

Graham, Sandra; Barker, George P. – Journal of Educational Psychology, 1990
Two studies with 170 children aged 4-12 years examined the possibility that unsolicited help can serve as a low-ability cue. Targets of unsolicited help are perceived by children as less able students who are less likely to do well and less likely to be desirable workmates. (SLD)

Results from 197 elementary school students (97 males and 100 females) aged 6, 7, and 8 years from New Zealand suggest that only poor and younger average readers clearly read better in context than in lists. Good readers, even when younger, seem to be less reliant on context clues. (SLD)
