Steps for making a robot are presented, including: cutting the wood, drilling and nailing, assembling the jaws, and making them work. Fifth- and sixth-grade students (N=600) were assessed regarding smoking activity, parents' smoking, four dimensions of self-esteem, and attitudes toward school. Multivariate analyses showed students were more likely to begin smoking if they had parents who smoked, had low self-esteem, and disliked school and feared failure. (Author)

Administered the Survey of Reading Attitudes to 68 intermediate-grade students to determine the reliability of the eight attitudinal dimensions which it measures. The test retest interval was seven days. Results showed the scores were relatively stable. Reading anxiety appeared to be a less stable dimension. (Author/JAC)

Investigated the impact of the 14-week Purdue Creative Thinking Program on learning disabled intermediate grade children. Found pupils in the experimental group made significantly higher scores on the creativity variables of the verbal subtest of the Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking. (Author/JAC)
