Schanding, G. Thomas, Jr.; Tingstrom, Daniel H.; Sterling-Turner, Heather E. – Psychology in the Schools, 2009

Gast, David L.; Jacobs, Heidi A.; Logan, Kent R.; Murray, Amy Streu; Holloway, Anne; Long, Libby – Education and Training in Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities, 2000
This study evaluated the effectiveness of a brief, 2-minute pre-session stimulus preference assessment in predicting the levels of responding of four students (ages 6-9) with profound multiple disabilities. Reuter, Jeanette; And Others – 1984
The effects of three different environmental conditions on the frequency of self-injurious and self-stimulation behavior in 10 brain damaged, profoundly retarded children (under 12 years old) were examined employing a time-sampled behavioral observation. The environmental conditions were social interaction, high demand, and stimulus deprivation…

Fisher, Wayne; And Others – Research in Developmental Disabilities, 1994
This study used a data-based assessment to identify reinforcers and punishers for successful treatment of two children with severe destructive behaviors. Results suggested that empirically derived consequences may be useful in decreasing destructive behavior when a functional assessment is inconclusive or suggests that internal stimuli are…

Freeman, Kurt A.; Piazza, Cathleen C. – Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis, 1998
The food refusal of a 6-year-old girl with autism and destructive behavior was treated using stimulus fading, reinforcement, and escape extinction. Intake increased, and compliance with prompting procedures remained relatively stable despite the increased consumption requirement. (Author/CR)

Strawbridge, Leigh A.; And Others – Journal of the Association for Persons with Severe Handicaps (JASH), 1987
The study evaluated a positive behavior therapy approach to managing disruptive screaming and crying in a classroom setting by a ten-year-old female with severe retardation, visual impairment, and physical disabilities. Auditory stimulation decreased disruptive behavior to zero levels, and gains were maintained at five-month followup. (Author/DB)
