Ingram, Gregg F.; Hakari, Lana J. – Journal for the Education of the Gifted, 1985
A study involving 33 children (8-10 years old) found significant relationships between the two tests' full scores. Most of the WJTCA clusters correlated significantly with the WISC-R (Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Revised) verbal scale IQ which suggests a high verbal loading on the WJTCA. (Author/CL)

Kaufman, Alan S. – Roeper Review, 1984
Implications for gifted education of the Kaufman Assessment Battery for Children (K-ABC) are discussed. The rationale for using the K-ABC with this population is explained; special administrative features are noted; results of research with the gifted are cited; and practical implications (including its use with gifted minority students) are…

Patchett, Robin F.; Stansfield, Michael – Psychology in the Schools, 1992
Examined subtests scatter on Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Revised by analyzing Verbal-Performance Intelligence Quotient (IQ) discrepancies, subtest scaled-score ranges, and subtests scaled-score standard deviations of 290 psychoeducationally normal 9 year olds whose IQs ranged from 100 to 140+. Found substantial differences on measures…

Intercorrelation of the WISC-R and the Renzulli-Hartman Scale for Determination of Gifted Placement.

Lowrance, Dan; Anderson, Howard N. – 1977
In order to compare the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children--Revised (WISC-R) and the Renzulli-Hartman Scale for Determination of Gifted Placement, 192 potentially gifted elementary students were rated on both tests. A correlation matrix indicated that one of the four subscales of the Renzulli-Hartman Scale, the Learning Characteristics…

Lustbert, Richard S.; And Others – Psychology in the Schools, 1990
Attempted to develop a quantitative model using the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Revised (WISC-R) that could be used to predict those students most likely to be successful in gifted education programs. Study used two phases using two groups of elementary school students (N=161). Used subtests to predict program performance of gifted…

Ortiz, Vicente Z.; Gonzalez, Alexander – Gifted Child Quarterly, 1989
Summed scores of 2 subscales each of the Verbal and Performance scales of the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (Revised) were cross-validated with full scale scores of 96 Hispanic students in a program for the accelerated and gifted. Results indicate the subtests as potentially useful tools for screening Hispanic students. (Author/PB)

Mishra, Shitala P.; And Others – Psychology in the Schools, 1989
Administered Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Revised to 45 learning-disabled and 41 gifted Navajo elementary students. Interpreted performance according to Luria-Das Model of Simultaneous and Successive cognitive processes. Gifted and learning disabled students had disparate loadings for some subtests expected to involve Successive and…

Robinson, Eric L.; Nagle, Richard J. – Psychology in the Schools, 1992
Of 75 elementary and middle school gifted students, 44 percent of students' Stanford-Binet Intelligence Scale: Fourth Edition (SBIV) Composite scores and 28 percent of students' Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Revised (WISC-R) Full Scale IQ scores were over 10 points different from their Test of Cognitive Skills (TCS) Cognitive Skills…

Sevier, Robert; And Others – Roeper Review, 1994
Thirty-five gifted elementary children were tested with the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children III (WISC-III) and results were compared to a previous administration of the WISC (Revised). Scores were significantly higher on all three WISC-R global scales and most subtest scaled scores. Correlation coefficients between the tests were…

Sattler, Jerome M; Covin, Thernon M. – Psychology in the Schools, 1986
The Slosson Intelligence Test (revised norms) (SIT) and the WISC-R (Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Revised) were compared. Results provide a moderate degree of support for the concurrent validity of the revised SIT norms, using the WISC-R as the criterion. However, the intelligence quotients on the two tests may not be interchangeable.…

Eby, Judy W. – Educational Leadership, 1983
An instrument developed for selecting students for gifted programs on the basis of performance and behavior opens up opportunities for interested students to demonstrate their capacity without any taint of elitism. (MLF)

Spangler, Robert S.; Sabatino, David A. – Roeper Review, 1995
The longitudinal stability of the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Revised was examined for consistency in determining eligibility for gifted programs among 66 elementary children. All subtest scales except one remained extremely stable, producing less than one scale score point difference across three test administrations. Children…

Watkins, Marley W.; Greenawalt, Chris G.; Marcel, Catherine M. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 2002
Applied factor analysis to the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Third Edition (WISC-III) scores for 505 gifted students, to evaluate the construct validity of the WISC-III with this population. Results are consistent with the hypothesis that subtests that emphasize speed of reading are not valid for gifted children and suggest that an…

Fishkin, Anne S.; Kampsnider, John J. – 1996
Since the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Third Edition (WISC-III) was published in 1991, it has been reported that fewer students are qualifying for gifted programs that use the WISC-III as a criterion measure. WISC-III differs from the WISC-Revised (WISC-R) in having a greater emphasis on speed of response, which could…
