Examines how elementary school children locate themselves geographically and affectively in relation to the world. The study focused on fourth- and sixth-grade students in Japan, Macau, and Hong Kong (China). Discusses why Japanese children are less likely to locate themselves in an international sphere. The incidence, correlates, and effects of mathematics anxiety were studied for 154 Japanese children in grades 5 and 6.
