Chang, Lin; Becker, Betsy Jane – 1987
Data drawn from 30 journal articles and ERIC documents reporting on gender differences in natural science achievement were re-examined. Three meta-analysis methods were used: (1) vote counts and vote-counting estimation procedures; (2) tests of combined significance; and (3) analyses of effect sizes. The three methods produced seemingly…

Kulik, Chen-Lin C.; Kulik, James A. – AEDS Journal, 1986
This meta analysis of 101 studies of computer-based education in colleges highlights examination performance, student attitudes toward instruction and computers, the relationship of publication source to study outcome, and time needed for instruction. One hundred twenty-one references are listed. (Author/LRW)

Bangert-Drowns, Robert L. – Review of Educational Research, 1993
This metanalysis reviews 32 studies that compared 2 groups of students receiving identical writing instruction, with only 1 group using word processing for writing assignments. Word processing improved the quality of student writing but did not improve student attitudes. Suggestions are given for using word processing more effectively. (SLD)

Schneider, Barry H.; Atkinson, Leslie; Tardif, Christine – Developmental Psychology, 2001
Used meta-analysis to examine premise that the early child-parent bond is reflected in interpersonal relationships across the life span. Found that overall effect size (ES) for child-mother attachment was small to moderate. ESs were similar in studies using Strange Situation and Q-sort methods. ESs were larger for middle childhood and adolescent…

Shymansky, James A.; Kyle, William C., Jr.; Alport, Jennifer M. – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 2003
This study summarizes the results of a quantitative synthesis of the retrievable primary research dealing with the effects of new science curricula on student performance. This study synthesizes the results of 105 experimental studies involving more than 45,000 students and utilizes the quantitative synthesis perspective to research integration…

Smoot, Sharene; And Others – 1990
This study was designed to find: a suitable effect size (ES) measure or common metric (CM) for comparing the results of a set of single subject research (SSR) studies; and an easy way to convert the published graphs back into raw data from which ESs could be calculated. To meet the first objective, three possible formulas for measuring treatment…

Kulik, Chen-Lin C.; Kulik, James A. – Journal of Educational Technology Systems, 1987
This meta-analysis of 49 comparative studies shows that mastery testing has positive effects on student learning, but the size of effect depends on the stringency of the criterion used and the degree of experimental control. The effects of instructional time, student attitudes, and differences in ability levels are also addressed. (Author/LRW)

Van Mourik, Rosa; Oosterlaan, Jaap; Sergeant, Joseph A. – Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry, 2005
Background: An inhibition deficit, including poor interference control, has been implicated as one of the core deficits in AD/HD. Interference control is clinically measured by the Stroop Colour-Word Task. The aim of this meta-analysis was to investigate the strength of an interference deficit in AD/HD as measured by the Stroop Colour-Word Task…

Daniel, Thomas – 1992
This paper studies statistical procedures used in the "Journal of Research in Music Education" (JRME) over a 5-year period (1987 through 1991). The results are compared with those of L. D. Goodwin and W. L. Goodwin (1985) concerning the "American Educational Research Journal" for the same period. In all, 78 quantitative and 31…

Kulik, Chen-Lin C.; And Others – 1986
The purpose of this study was to determine the extent to which mastery testing contributes to instructional effectiveness and to determine the size of its effects in different outcome areas, such as aptitude and instructional time. A meta-analytic methodology was used to integrate findings from experimental studies. Twenty studies examined…

Moon, Charles E.; And Others – 1986
Forty studies using one or more components of Lozanov's method of suggestive-accelerative learning and teaching were identified from a search of all issues of the "Journal of Suggestive-Accelerative Learning and Teaching." Fourteen studies contained sufficient statistics to compute effect sizes. The studies were coded according to substantive and…

Willig, Ann C. – Review of Educational Research, 1985
Meta analysis results were compared with a traditional review of bilingual education program effectiveness. When controlled for methodological inadequacies, participation in bilingual education programs consistently produced differences favoring bilingual education. The methodological inadequacies in the synthesized studies highlights the need for…
