Describes a study which compared the responses of 820 British 15-year-olds to unfinished sentences about their images of the ideal person and their ultimate values. A comparison of responses shows that the second sentence caused reduced materialistic and fantasy responses, and increased references to family and friends. (AM)

A cross-year group and longitudinal study was conducted to investigate the influence of race on friendship preferences of pupils in a multi-racial, secondary school in Britain.
